Motivating students in the classroom is a continual challenge to teachers. Students who are not motivated often underachieve and can sometimes be disruptive in class, distracting students who are motivated from their own work. The dimensions of Interest, Challenge, Choice, and Enjoyment as measured by the My Class Activities survey are based in theory and practice in the field of gifted education and tied directly to motivation and learning. Individual teachers, teams of teachers, entire buildings, and even districts can use My Class Activities to assess how their students view their class activities. With this information, educators can form goals and coordinate improvement plans in areas deemed important. Researchers can use My Class Activities to measure whether an intervention has had any effect on student attitudes toward school, whether a relationship exists between student attitudes and achievement, whether a difference exists among various groups in attitude toward school, or to address a variety of other research questions. Finally, looking at students' assessments of class activities can help both researchers and educators to study and formulate methods for effective teaching.
